Diamond
Diamond is the hardest material known therefore it is ideal for grinding hard, brittle and short-chipping materials. Diamond is preferred for precision grinding of hard metals such as carbide, tungsten, sprayed and sintered alloys, ceramic, glass, silicon stone and cast iron.
Cubic boron nitride (CBN)
Cubic Boron nitride (CBN) is an abrasive which bridges the gap between conventional abrasives and diamond. CBN have crystal structure equivalent to diamond, with a hardness little below of diamond. CBN is suitable for wet and dry grinding of high alloy steels. It is equally suitable for machining materials such as high speed tool steels, hot and cold working steels, stainless and high-temperature structural steels as well as nickel, chromium and titanium alloys.
The Bond System
The grinding behavior and performance of diamond and CBN wheels are highly depends on the bond chemistry. The bond is designed to keep the Diamond or CBN grains at an optimal condition during the grinding process and have a major part defining the character of the grinding wheel performance.
